Team OG
Back in March this year, Ting-Li and Brendon decided to join their old teammates, Nick and Randie, to give it another shot in Season 2023-2024, nicknamed Team OG. This team first formed in 2009, representing Chinese Taipei in the Pacific Curling Championships, and then participated in 5 Pacific-Asian Curling Championships from 2014 to 2018 as well as the 2017 Asian Winter Games. Other than the years they played together, the Chinese Taipei Men’s team has been skipped by one of them since 2003. Coach Greg Monkman will also be back with the team.
As a result of this decision, Team Taiwania men’s team split into two teams for the coming season. In order to decide who will represent Chinese Taipei, there were three teams competing in the Chinese Taipei Men’s Trials held at the Chaska Curling Center the past weekend. Nelson and Martin would be joined by Samuel and Henry, but Martin was not able to make the trial due to travel difficulties. The trial ran for two days. Three teams played a single round robin on the first day to determine the seeding for the playoff. Teams ranked 2nd and 3rd played in the semifinal, and the winner played the 1st ranked team in the final. After winning the semifinal, Team OG faced a lot of challenge in the final but managed to overcome a 3-points deficit by stealing 4 points in the last 3 ends and won the game by 7-6 on Sunday.
